Airlink was established in 1992, along with liquidated Link Airways business followed, which has incorporated a range of other airlines: Midlands Aviation (formed in 1967), Magnum Airways, Lowveld Aviation Services, Border Air, and Citi Air. It includes a 40% share in Swaziland Airlink.
Simply known as Airlink, SA Airlink (Pty) Ltd is a provincial airline located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The airline is privately owned and acts as a feeder airline between larger hub and small towns airports. It has code-sharing and schedule coordination agreements with South African Airways and South African Express.
After five years of Airlink founded, the airline connected South African Airways and South African Express Airways in a strategic alliance that is directed by a franchise agreement.
The SA Civil Aviation Authority on 23 December 2009 stranded their fleet of 13 BAe Jetstream 41 planes. An issue with a seal in the aircraft’s Honeywell engines was considered to be the reason for the safety issues. Following audits of the airline’s inspection and procedures of the grounded aircraft, they were returned to service.
Airlink was the first airline in history to make a commercial charter flight to Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean on 3 May 2017.

Each passenger may carry hand baggage without additional charges following the checked baggage allowance, applicable for placement under the passenger’s seat or in the closed overhead rack with maximum dimensions defined by the carrier subject to space availability.
