Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport i.e. (SVPIA), is the airport that serves the famous cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. In the past years, Ahmedabad has shown a rapid expansion in population, and has prospered the business as well as the economic status of the place. The name of this international airport has been derived from the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Ahmedabad International Airport is one of the busiest airports in India and serving about 9.2 million passengers in the fiscal year 2017-2018.

In 2015, the government adopted the procedure for privatization of the airport, as a result of which New Dholera International Airport is being developed. This is mainly because of the expansion constraints at the existing airport.

Terminals:

The airport has three terminals:

Terminal 1: This terminal handles all the domestic operations with around 32 check-in counters.

Terminal 2: The terminal was built in 2010 with a facility of 4 jet-bridges and 32 check-in counters. It has won some awards including the best Steel Structure and the National Structural Steel Design and Construction. The terminal has an extensive apron area for the airplanes like A-321, ATR-72. Moreover, the terminal 2 can accommodate about 1600 passengers at a time.

Cargo Terminal: The airport also has a cargo terminal which can handle around 51,637 tonnes of cargo. The airport gets the cargo from domestic sources.
