Detroit Airport

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport abbreviated as DTW and generally called by other names as well like Metro Airport, Detroit Metro Airport.

The airport is spread in a area over 4850 acres and its the busiest airport and the largest airline hub in Michigan.

Coming to the runway part, Detroit has 4 main runways, 2 terminals and 129 service gates.

DTW has been chosen as the eighteenth busiest airport in the USA in the year 2016 and code for this airport is ‘DTW.’

Terminals:

There are only 2 terminals which are as follows:

Edward H. McNamara Terminal:

Designed by the Smith Group and constructed by Hunt Construction Group , this terminal was opened in the year 2002.

Erstwhile, this terminal was known as Northwest World Gateway and at the time of development this terminal got famous with the name the Midfield Terminal.

The terminal has 3 halls i.e. A, B & C and 103 gates with the proper dining and shopping facilities in the center of A. These hall A consists 3 Delta Sky Clubs & 1 each in other two halls B & C.

The arrival of trams is almost simultaneous at the all the Terminal Stations, in the center of the hall and leaves in the opposite directions to the North Station & the South Station.

North Terminal:

The 2^nd terminal is North Terminal which was planned by Gensler and constructed by the joint venture of Walbridge and Barton Malow.

The terminal was opened in the year 2008 taking the place of Smith & Berry Terninals.

The terminal currently operates all the non-Sky Team at the Detroit airport and has total 26 gates two of them are just for accommodating the big international aircrafts.

There are several facilities and services which you will be offered to enjoy at this airport. The four long walkways in the departure area and also a moving walkway on the lower level. The walkways are specially for international passengers to enjoy the access of the Federal Inspection Services area.

The major airlines which are served with the services of this terminal are United, Delta, JetBlue, South-West, Lufthansa, American, Alaska airlines.

This terminal has two 6 lane security check points and on the lower level the, terminal is also all-inclusive with U.S.A Customs and Borders Protection Inspection facilities.

Situated at Mc. Namara Terminal, Michigan Freedom Center is also close to A43 which provides you the facility of military lounge at the airport. These lounges offers you the amenities like free Wi-Fi services, snacks & beverages, comfy lounges with recliners, microwave, laptops, etc.

ATMs located at Mc Namara Terminal at the airside of Gate A, B, C and also at the parking area of level 6.

For the passengers especially ladies traveling with infants, baby acre facilities such as tables for diaper change & disposal which are situated at the family restroom at the airport.

Children’s Play Area

For the flyers traveling with kids can easily pass their time by playing in the palying area allotted by the airport authority to take care of every need of the passengers. The different locations at the airside at McNamara at the gates A18, B20, C4 and also D16 at North Terminal. 

Cots:

In case your flight get canceled due to bad weather or continuous flight cancellation then airport provides cots or sleep pads for the stranded passengers.

FYI: the cots are only available to the travelers not to those who just want to spend night at the airport.

Currency Exchange Facility:

Currency exchange facility are one of the prominent facilities provided by the airport authorities since the airport came into being and the Travelex serves you with the currency exchange services at different locations at the airport:

One is located at the departure gate A38 and at the North terminal it is situated at D9 departures.

Eating Options:

A lot of good eating options are available for the passengers having varying flight schedule. As mentioned airport authorities of Detroit airport take good care of their passengers.

Pet Relief Area:

If you are the one who is traveling with your pet, be it dog, cat or a bird then firstly you need to follow certain rule that you may find out on  the website of the airlines you are traveling with.

Airport has two areas for pet relief, one is near gate A34 at McNamara Terminal and other is at North Terminal and is opposite to D16 gate.

Spa:

Another relieving facility at the airport is Spa, and you can enjoy this service on the airside at the McNamara terminal and North Terminal A45 gate.
