Post TATA Group Takeover Air India Named Best On Time Airline

Air India is India’s first airline to defeat Indigo Airlines for the third month in a row, making it to the list of the country’s top “on-time” airline. They have surpassed IndiGo, which has consistently been a top performer in terms of OTP. Air India appears to have highlighted the strategy of maintaining a punctuality image in the past few months. Since the Tata Group purchased Air India, the new management has prioritized punctuality and implemented stringent measures to improve the airline’s arrival and departure times. Air India has strictly recognized on-time performance (OTP) as its primary progressive goal.  They put in place strategies like closing aircraft doors 15 minutes before departure and improving predictive maintenance. Air India has also invested in IT systems to improve aircraft maintenance capability and ensure that all systems function properly. As a result, Air India had 87.1% of its flights arrive on time in September, while IndiGo had 84.1%. On the contrary, 83.1 percent of Air India’s flights were on time in June.

Indigo Airlines is also making significant changes to its in-flight management in order to improve its overall performance. One of these changes is to close the cabin door within 60 seconds of the last passenger boarding. Indigo has also been following the instructions to close the doors 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
