India Validates Over 3200 International Flights Per Week

In its Summer Schedule, India has decided to permit over 3200 international departures per week.In a week, the Indian airlines received approval from the aviation regulator, Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for 1466 departures. A total of 1783 departures were granted to foreign airlines. On March 27, 2022, the Summer Schedule began which will go on till October 29, 2022. Furthermore, the DGCA has approved 1466 India international flights to serve 43 international destinations across 27 countries.

Indigo airlines will conduct the maximum number of international departure operations as per the schedule, totaling 505, followed by Air India with 361 operations. Air India Express has 340 departures, Spice Jet with 130, GoFirst 74, and Vistra with 56 departure operations.


On an international level, 60 airlines are liable to operate 1783 departures on flight tickets to India and from India throughout the “Summer Schedule 2022.” Emirates which is a Gulf-based airline has the highest operations i.e 170 per week, Oman Air follows it with 115 departure operations while at 110 per week Air Arabia will carry out the departure operations. The Qatar Airlines is at 99, Gulf Air at 82, Etihad Airways at 80, Saudi Arabian Airlines at 63, and Kuwait Airways at 56.


Sri Lankan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Thai Airways, The German Lufthansa, Malaysian Airlines, Japan Airlines, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch, and Aeroflot Russian Airlines conduct weekly departure operations to and from India. Sri Lankan Airlines leads with 128 flights per week, followed by Singapore Airlines at 65, British Airways at 49, and others with varying frequencies.

Delhi has permitted certain other airlines as well for the same purpose. These airlines include Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Salam Air, American Airlines, and Qantas. The center’s resumption of international passenger services on March 27, 2022, has led to an increase in the number of weekly international flights, making it one of the best travel offers currently available.

The government officially announced the decision to resume international operations through a bulletin. After closely analyzing global vaccination campaigns, the government resumed international operations on March 27, 2022 after consulting stakeholders.

On 23 March 2020, authorities banned international commercial flights to control the rapidly spreading COVID-19 virus. India later put the initial plan to permit international flights on 15 December 2021 on hold due to the third COVID-19 wave until further orders.
