India Will Resume International Flights Possibly By Year-End

Since last March, international flights had remained suspended and India is soon to provide a decision on resuming scheduled international flights. Though there are chances that the decision may arrive by the end of this year, the worsening situation in Europe due to COVID19 has forced the Centre to think about this issue carefully.

“I am working on the issue of the resumption of scheduled international regular and last-minute flights to India with other Union ministries like home and health. There is no definite decision as of now due to the resurgence of COVID in some countries. The inter-ministerial discussions on this issue will hopefully arrive at a decision shortly.” as TOI reported the Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s opinions on Wednesday.

Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal told the reporters earlier in the day that international flight services would normalize very soon, possibly by the end of this year. He informed the TOI, “This is still a work in progress.”

It is clear that the government wants to analyze the situation with COVID19 very carefully before announcing its decision on resuming scheduled international flights which were suspended in March 2020. Since international flights operate under air bubbles created by India with 31 countries.

However, the limited capacity has resulted in extremely high prices. Now on peak travel days, a one-way ticket costs more than return fares in pre-pandemic days. Even international US To India flights pricing is touching the skies for the occasion of this Christmas and New Year.

The tourism industry has been requesting the government to open international flights to countries where the situation on COVID19 is in control and those that mutually accept and recognize Indian certification and vaccines.
