Therefore, airlines have clearly defined baggage policies. Not paying attention to these golden rules can be a nightmare.
Imagine you have just scored a sweet deal to your dream location, say cheap flights to Europe. However, upon check-in, you realize that your luggage is overweight. Hello, heavy baggage fees!
Hence, this article shall center the baggage policy of one of the world’s premier air carriers, Singapore Airlines.
Singapore Airlines Baggage Allowance (Checked in Luggage)
As you make a reservation with Singapore airlines, the free baggage allowance is enlisted on your ticket. Further, do not carry articles that are not permitted in your Checked-in Luggage, such as:
- Perishable Items
- Medications
- Travel or Business IDs
- Precious Metals
- Laptop
- Money and Valuable Items
The baggage allowance is ascertained based on factors such as weight or number of pieces. Also, the determining factor depends upon your final destination.
For example, flights to New Delhi from Singapore may have more luggage allowance. However, the extra baggage fee on the same route may not be as cheap as a domestic Singapore Airlines flight.

The safety and convenience of all passengers onboard demands not to overstuff the overhead-bins or compartments.
Passengers flying with Singapore Airlines ascertain the baggage allowance for carry-on luggage based on the class.
- First Class and Suites can carry up to two bags on board. However, each bag must be under or up to 7 kg in weight. Moreover, the sum of length, height and width must be 115 cm or less.
- Economy and Premium Economy can carry one piece of baggage only. However, the bag must be 7 kg or less. Also, the sum of length, height and width must not be more than 115 cm.
In case, you violate the above-mentioned baggage allowance; your stuff shall be stored in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. Moreover, an extra baggage fee is applicable.
Delayed Baggage
If you reach your destination without your stuff, do not panic. It is most likely a case of delayed baggage. However, remember to follow the steps mentioned below:
- Report: Intimate the ground staff immediately. Following which you will have to fill a report to describe the details of your luggage. Also, mention your contact information, including your address of delivery.
- Collect: Next, get a copy of your report and keep it safely with you. Also, make a note of ‘File Reference Number.’
- Track: With the reference number secured you can track the status of your luggage through Singapore Airline’s chatbot- Kris, or by using the World Tracer System
Luggage and cargo handling staff will contact you as soon as your luggage is located. Next, they will deliver it to the provided address.
However, in a highly unlikely event of lost luggage, you will have to file for the baggage claim and adhere to the procedure.
Traveling on Multiple Airlines
Traveling on multiple airlines makes sense owing to the discount airline tickets and better value deals.
So, if you are flying with more than just Singapore Airlines, your baggage allowance will vary. This is based on the type of airplane tickets, namely single ticket, conjunction ticket, or separate tickets.
Non-Regular Baggage
Certain items do not fall under the ‘standard’ baggage classification. For example, articles too large to carry such as grand piano, you must contact the Singapore Airlines Cargo.
However, most musical instruments or sporting equipment can be checked in or bought on board.
Sporting Equipment
The following sports equipment is allowed as free baggage:
- Skis
- Surfboards
- Scuba Diving apparel
- Bicycles
- Golf Clubs
Remember, the baggage allowance is perhaps the most important thing next to cheap plane tickets or a reasonable flight deal. Therefore, always make sure you are up to date with the luggage policies.
